The Mathematics Department at Studio School and Sixth aims to make lessons engaging and challenging, memorable and enjoyable. We hope to use our lessons to encourage you to look at the world with a mathematical mind.
We want you to be able to make decisions about how to solve problems, to be confident in interpreting solutions and make sensible decisions about how to communicate your findings.
We hope that this confidence will enable you to use your mathematical skills in your vocational courses as well as becoming confident users of mathematics in your adult life.
Over the two years you will:
The course will comprise a combination of new mathematical techniques and a process of reading problems in a careful and precise way to understand the mathematical information you are given. You will be offered a range of real-life problems to tackle as well as opportunities to practice new techniques and skills. You will work towards GCSE higher level or a combined Foundation GCSE/Functional Maths course.
By GCSE examination in Year 11
At the end of the Level 2/GCSE course you will be equipped with the skills and understanding to use mathematics in your future education and adult life. You may wish to study Level 3 Core Mathematics which takes the practical approach to mathematics to a higher level.
At the end of the Level 2/GCSE course you will be equipped with the skills and understanding to use mathematics in your future education and adult life. In Studio Sixth, you may wish to study Level 3 Core Mathematics which takes the practical approach to mathematics to a higher level.
As well as studying the specialist subject you’re passionate about, it’s a legal requirement for all Key Stage 4 students to follow the National Curriculum.This means it’s mandatory that you also study:
Alongside a chosen pathway subject and Core Studies, students must also choose two more Option Subjects to equip them with a range of knowledge and skills.
