Why choose walsall studio school?

Our BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Creative Digital Media, is for creative digital designers at the start of their professional journey. If you have an interest in learning how to plan and write full screenplays, produce digital content from the moving image, audio, publishing and interactive sector, and study the theory behind media products and how media producers target their audience, then this is the course for you. Our aim is to equip you with the skills, knowledge and understanding to progress to you onto our Level 3 BTEC course in Creative Digital Media at Walsall Studio School.

As a media student at Walsall Studio School, you have access to visiting media industry professionals. You are also expected to contribute to our showcases throughout the year which include filming the school productions, musicals and the summer music festival.
Our level 2 course will prepare you for further study and progression in the media industry, in all areas of production including; scriptwriting, content producer, director and editor.

What will I learn?

Over the 2 years you will:

  • Create Pre-Production for a range of different media products from the following sectors; moving image, interactive and publishing (Screenplay, storyboard, wireframes, sprites)
  • Use advanced technology to produce your own products, including your own short movie, creating a television advertisement, an interactive game and a three-page magazine.
    Study popular media production and the theory behind how media content is developed and produced for audiences.
  • Develop your presentation and technical skills and stream and broadcast live shows and performances.

How will I study?

You will be working on assignments that are designed to simulate actual media industry projects. This means lots of pre-production (planning), production (making) and post production (editing). All practical projects are accompanied by written work in the form of evaluations, progress journals, planning documents and music notation. You will take part in regular workshops with media industry professionals and external visits to media studios.

How will I be assessed?

All assignments are coursework based. There is a mixture of internal assessments marked and moderated by our staff and external assessments which are marked by the exam board.
